Take a moment.
Be here, now.
As humans our life is intimately defined by the dimensions of time and space.
From womb to grave, our experiences is by and large mediated by how matter is constantly transforming as time goes by.
Even as we are meditating or sleeping, time and space in its subtle forms are still the “stuff” of our experience.
In our day and age we are living a lifestyle predicated on a deep collective perception that time and space is a scarcity.
And sadly enough, it is a perception that reinforces it self. There is a sense of hurry, and our nervous system ramps up by doing even more, with less and less time at our disposal. And with technology amplifying our pace we are like a runaway horses speeding away, going fast, nowhere.
As dim as it may seem, and as hollow as it may feel, I truly believe that it is serving a purpose for our evolution. For as the looping escalates, the suffering grows and with it a longing for something more harmonious is born. And so the journey begins. For we are not bound by time and space. The truth of the matter is that the moment is eternal, and space is ever expansive. What binds us is our relationship to them.
I could write books about how the sense of hurry is affecting us on personal and collective levels. But, here I want to share a contemplation on how it affects our healing process. Because, as we go through our days with the feeling that our calender and important duties are ever encroaching on us, the state of our nervous system gets primed for getting things done fast. And the faster, more intense and effective - the better, for then we will save time.
Skimming through the healing offerings of our day, you could see how it’s all designed for getting the job done, fast and effective. Breathwork, Cacao ceremonies, Kirtan, ecstatic dance, 60 minute yoga classes, ice baths, plant medicine etc etc. And I am not taking anything away from us finding beautiful ways to heal and connect. But, the ways we choose to heal is not bringing about the antidote to the mindset that brought about the problems in the first place: that we have to do something to get somewhere to be someone.
Looking at this from an elemental perspective, we could say that our modalities of healing are confined to the application of fire and air. Fire being the principle of heat, transformation and purification and air being the principle of movement, change, and instability. And with the lack of space and earth, fire and air together become a place hostile pressure - a corridor of fire. A place of intense and effective transformation for sure, but not a place to establish effortless contentment with reality.
We lack the the slowness of the earth and water element and the instantly liberating expansiveness of spaciousness. Space is the main organising element, from which all other elements were born (in the beginning there was only space, so everything else that is had to come from space). As we give ample space, so we relieve our pressurised nervous systems and our goal oriented mindsets. Space has in it the quality of organisation, so when there is enough of it we can finally begin to integrate and make order to the fragments of our “the healing chaos”.
And as we slowing down enough, for long enough, with nothing to do, nowhere to go, no-one to be - we awaken the gift of true grounding. Here, we can start building our paradise.
Many people I meet are interested in the transition to the 5th dimension. Some call it the Age of Aquarius, others the dawning of the “Golden Age”. With my being fully immersed in the cascading waters of a volcanic waterfall in Bali back in 2020, this was what I heard as time dissolved and space opened:
“You think the 5th dimension is a destination somewhere above the clouds. But, the promised lands you are seeking will not be reached by transcendence. You will find it only by sinking down. Slow down. Lie down. Come down. The 5th dimensional bandwave is carried in the slow, but steady rhythms of earth herself. It is not a place to go to, but a new understanding of what is already here, now.
You will know it when you can with child-like wonder and saint-like gratitude enjoy the gifts of the 3d dimension.
